2016 Sir Ninian Stephen Menzies Scholarship in International Law
Joel Gilbourd has been awarded the 2016 Sir Ninian Stephen Menzies Scholarship in International Law for his outstanding community participation and leadership coupled with his excellent academic achievements. Joel has been deployed as an advisor to the Office of the Solomon Islands Ombudsman as part of the Australian Government’s Australian Volunteers for International Development program. He volunteers as a translator for two NGOs.
Joel was awarded numerous prizes and firsts (including in International Law, Criminal Law and Advanced French) during his Bachelor of Laws, First Class Honours from the University of Sydney. He also established the University of Sydney Fine Arts Society and became its founding President.
Joel is the first Menzies Scholar to study at Georgetown University in Washington, which he selected partly due to its relationship with the World Bank. He will complete a Master of Laws (International Legal Studies LLM).
