1982 Menzies Scholar in Law
In 1982, I had the great honour of being the first Menzies Scholar in Law. I grew up in Perth and completed the two-year BCL at Magdalen College in Oxford in 1984.
After a brief time in London at Freshfields, I joined Davis, Polk & Wardwell, an old Wall Street law firm. I became a partner in 1994 specializing in corporate finance, with a particular emphasis on initial public offerings of securities and corporate transactions by retailers. In addition, I manage our corporate finance group which numbers over 80 lawyers and have responsibility for the lawyers in our foreign offices. Worldwide, we are always looking for smart, talented young lawyers.
I live just outside New York City in a leafy, green suburb on Long Island Sound. I am married to a New Yorker, and we have three children. Although my job and family keep me firmly tied to New York, we enjoy our annual visits to Australia and our residence in Perth overlooking the Indian Ocean.
