Professor Sandra Brauer
1996 Menzies Scholar in the Allied Health Sciences
Sandy Brauer graduated from the University of Queensland with first class honours in physiotherapy and a University Medal in 1991. She worked as a physiotherapist at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before winning an Australian Postgraduate Award to undertake her PhD.
Her PhD research was on the relationship between balance and falls in elderly people. It concentrated on the motor control aspect of balance and used electromyography to monitor muscle activity and dual force platforms to detect body motion.
Professor Brauer is Deputy Head of School, School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences at The University of Queensland.
