Applications for the inaugural Menzies School Leader Fellowship Program supporting leadership capability in schools close on 21 December. The new program,
a partnership between the Menzies Foundation and the Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne, represents an investment of $1.5
million over the next three years.
“This Fellowship will support outstanding school leaders to further develop their leadership capacity,” said Menzies Foundation CEO Liz Gillies.
“Principals, assistant principals and lead teachers in Victorian primary and secondary schools are encouraged to apply for this rare chance to work with
internationally renowned Laureate Professor John Hattie.
“As well as completing the Leadership Development program with Professor Hattie, each Fellow will receive $30,000 for a Collective Efficacy Project, $24,000
for professional development and travel, as well as membership of the University of Melbourne’s Network of Schools program for each Fellow’s school,
worth $46,000, and membership of the Menzies Alumni,” Ms Gillies added.
Laureate Professor John Hattie said the aim is for great schools to work together to maximize the impact of their teaching on all students in their care.
“We are excited to be working with the Menzies Foundation next year, supporting school leaders to leverage collective efficacy in their schools,” Professor
Hattie said.
“We know that through adults working together for the success of all students we can achieve far more together than we ever could on our own.
“Join us as we work together at the individual, school and system level to build a compelling narrative that gets at the heart of collaborative expertise,”
Professor Hattie added.
The first Menzies School Leadership Fellows will be appointed in early 2019. The Fellowship will initially be piloted in Victoria, with the hope to extend
Australia wide in the future, to support the next generation of emerging leaders in education across the country.
Established in 1979 to perpetuate the legacy of Sir Robert Menzies, Australia’s longest serving Prime Minister, the Menzies Foundation has a 40-year track
record in backing outstanding leaders. The Foundation plays a philanthropic role in supporting the development of leadership capability in three priority
areas of: leadership in schools; entrepreneurship in science; and guiding Australia’s response to complex global legal issues, with a particular focus
currently on cyber security.
