Scholarship biography (at time of award)
Justin Hogan-Doran graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and a Bachelor of Economics. He earned several awards including the Nancy Gordon Smith Prize. After graduation, Justin worked as an Associate to H.E. the Right Hon Judge Sir Ninian Stephen KG AK GCMG GCVO KBE and as a Law Clerk with Mallesons Stephen Jaques.
Justin was awarded the Scholarship to complete a BCL/MPhil at Balliol College, University of Oxford.

Justin practices in International Commercial & Investment Arbitration, Transport & Maritime Law, Jurisdiction and Private International Law, Construction Law & Arbitration, Mining & Resources Litigation, Insurance & Reinsurance, Insolvency & Bankruptcy. He has a particular interest in cross-border transactions and cross-border enforcement of awards and judgments. For a number of years he has been recognised as one of Australia’s leading lawyers in Alternative Dispute Resolution – most recently in The Best Lawyers in Australia (2016)
Justin is also Recommended by Doyle’s Guide as Leading for Transport Barristers in Australia (2017)
Prior to coming to the Bar, Justin practised as a solicitor in the Banking and Finance division of Mallesons Stephen Jaques, was an Associate to H.E. the Rt Hon Judge Sir Ninian Stephen in the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, and was a consultant in the Financial Services Practice Group of the Boston Consulting Group.
Justin is a Captain in the Australian Army Legal Corps, and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Transnational Commercial Law at the University of Sydney. In his spare time he enjoys alpine mountaineering, marathon running, yacht racing and scuba diving.
