Scholarship biography (at time of award)
Liisa Laakso holds the degree of Bachelor of Physiotherapy with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland.
Liisa was awarded the Scholarship to complete her PhD entitled "The use of low level laser therapy in the treatment of chronic pain" was at the University of Queensland and Royal Brisbane Hospital.

I am originally qualified as a Physiotherapist and completed my PhD as a clinician with the benefit of a Menzies Foundation Scholarship in Allied Health Sciences. I later moved into a more administrative capacity in the public hospital sector. Subsequent to a number of years as a conjoint Lecturer and Senior Physiotherapist, I decided to take on the challenge of full-time academe. I am significantly involved with a number of professional organizations nationally and internationally, holding Board or Executive Committee membership on several. I am a member of the AICD and have completed the Australian Institute of Company Director's course (Sept 2011).
My daily goal is to learn something new. My lifetime goal is to make a difference.
Specialties: I have interests in laser therapy, cancer and palliative care, tissue injury and repair, eHealth, integrated care in the field of chronic disease, and prevention of chronic disease; education research; and academic management, leadership and administration.
