Scholarship biography (at time of award)

Patrick Flynn graduated from the University of New South Wales equal first in his class of 224 with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws, for which he earned a University Medal and several other awards. After graduation, he worked as a Solicitor and then a Law Clerk at Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

Patrick was awarded the Scholarship to complete an LLM at the University of Cambridge.

Current Biography

Patrick Flynn was admitted to the NSW Bar in 2005. He read on Banco Chambers with Robert Dick SC.

Since 2006 he has been a member of Eleven Wentworth chambers, a leading commercial floor.

Patrick practises primarily in the areas of commercial law and equity, corporations law, and intellectual property. He specialises in complex disputes, particularly those involving a technological or scientific aspect, and has experience in international commercial arbitration. He has been named as a recommended barrister in intellectual property in Best Lawyers in Australia and Doyle’s Guide.

Patrick appears regularly in the Federal Court of Australia and the Supreme Court of NSW, including in appeals. In Roadshow v iiNet, he appeared unled in the High Court of Australia as amicus curiae on behalf of a group of internet service providers.

As part of the intellectual property aspect of his practice, he also appears in contested hearings in the Australian Patents and Trade Marks Offices, and the New Zealand Patents Office.

As well as acting for companies, he has experience acting for high-profile individuals in commercial, equity and alleged misconduct cases.
