The Menzies Foundation is supporting this year’s National History Challenge, which features a special category on Sir Robert Menzies.
Students Hieu and Ryan from St Monica’s got the jump on the competition when they took the initiative to meet with Menzies Foundation CEO, Sarah Hardy.
With the help of the school’s librarian Maggie, they quizzed Sarah about why and how the Foundation was established and the highlights of Menzies’ ‘leadership and legacy’, which is also the National History Challenge theme for 2015. They also pondered the difficulty of narrowing down to a single focus for their entry when Menzies served as prime minister for over 16 years – when you are only 12, sixteen years seems a very long time!
Hieu and Ryan were also interested in Sir Robert’s focus on education and the Colombo Plan, which is quite topical right now with the release of the government’s New Colombo Plan.
The National History Challenge is open now and closes for entries on 21 August.
