Menzies Foundation CEO, Liz Gillies to join Philanthropy Australia Board

The Menzies Foundation is delighted to announce that our CEO, Liz Gillies, has been elected to join the Philanthropy Australia Board.

As CEO of the Menzies Foundation, Liz is working with the Board, Menzies Foundation team and collaboration partners to support a leadership movement which encourages Australians to reflect on leadership, build their leadership capacity, pivot to purpose, and contribute to the ‘greater good.’

Philanthropy Australia’s vision for a generous and inclusive Australia and their commitment to inspiring more and better philanthropy strongly aligns with this ambition.

“Philanthropy has a crucial role to play in supporting the community to address pressing global challenges.  It is imperative that philanthropy supports a strong peak organization that encourages more Australians to think and be philanthropic and fosters the development of better practice across the sector for impact.  I am delighted to join the Board of Philanthropy Australia, and to have the opportunity to bring my experience as a grantee and grantor, networks and resources to this important work.” Ms Gillies says.

Liz has over 25 years’ experience working in social impact. She was appointed CEO of the Menzies Foundation in 2018, and prior to this was instrumental in establishing the Centre for Ethical Leadership and Asia Pacific Social Impact Centre at Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne. Whilst at MBS Liz was awarded and led a three-year research partnership between the Centre and The Trust Company which focused on better practice in Philanthropy and culminated in the release of the Philanthropy: Towards a Better Practice Model (2018) and the Philanthropy: The Continued Journey to Real Impact and Better Practice (2021) Reports.  The Menzies Foundation’s work with the Yunus Centre, Griffith University on ‘Shaping Innovation Futures’ continues this work.

Peter Jopling AM QC, Chair, Menzies Foundation, says “We are delighted that Liz is joining the Board of Philanthropy Australia.  The Menzies Foundation is committed to implementing a catalytic strategy which addresses the seminal leadership challenges we face as a nation.  The Menzies Foundation Board is strongly committed to doing all we can to support a vibrant, connected, and ambitious philanthropic sector which prioritises the ‘greater good’ for our nation, our region, and the world.”

We welcome you to learn more about the important work Philanthropy Australia is doing in the sector.
