The Menzies 2024 Oration: The Intersection of Leadership + Truth

The Menzies Foundation and Federation University Australia, are honoured to present the 2024 Menzies Oration. This year’s event will feature the esteemed Kim Williams AM, Chairperson of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, as this year’s Orator.

In an era where the notions of truth and leadership face unprecedented challenges from misinformation, propaganda, and sensationalism, Mr. Williams will illuminate the indispensable qualities of clarity, transparency, accountability, and trust that must guide leaders in contemporary society.  The oration will explore the nuanced relationship between ethical leadership and the pursuit of truth, addressing how these elements shape both governance and public trust.

A lifelong advocate for the arts, media, and public policy, Kim Williams AM brings to the Menzies Oration a wealth of knowledge from his decades of leadership across a spectrum of influential institutions. His tenure as Chief Executive of News Corp Australia, FOXTEL, Fox Studios Australia, the Australian Film Commission, and his extensive board positions, including Chair of the Sydney Opera House Trust and the Australian Film Finance Corporation, exemplify his commitment to fostering cultural and ethical standards across industries. As a pioneer of digital broadcasting innovations and a decorated champion of the arts, Mr. Williams’ insights into leadership are not merely theoretical but have been refined through years of executive decision-making and public service.

The 2024 Menzies Oration stands as a pivotal occasion to explore the critical intersection of leadership and truth in an increasingly complex global landscape. At a time when ethical leadership faces unprecedented challenges, Mr. Williams’ insights into the moral obligations of those in power resonate deeply. His reflections align with the Menzies Foundation’s enduring commitment to diversity and its mission to elevate a plurality of voices in public discourse. Through these efforts, the Foundation ensures its initiatives remain at the forefront of progressive and inclusive thought leadership.
