Global Voices joins Menzies Foundation youth incubator

Menzies Foundation and Global Voices partner to inspire young Australians to join the ‘Greater Good’ leadership movement

The Menzies Foundation is delghted to announce a collaboration with Global Voices, a non-partisan, youth-led, Australian not-for-profit organisation, committed to developing the next generation of leaders by providing practical experience in policymaking, international relations, and diplomacy.

Global Voices, founded in 2011, has already empowered over 280 young individuals through its scholarship program, enabling them to participate in more than 85 international summits. These summits include esteemed platforms such as the United Nations, OECD, World Bank, IMF, and Y20.

This partnership will assist in extending the Global Voices reach to a National scholarship program and offer two additional scholarships to exceptional 18-30 year old Australians. Menzies Foundation is thrilled to announce the support of two positions at highly influential forums—the IMF and World Bank Annual Meeting delegation, and the Commission on the Status of Women delegation.

The Menzies Foundation, dedicated to cultivating leadership in Australia and beyond, has identified Emerging Leaders as one of its priority areas. To support this, the Foundation has established the Emerging Leaders Incubator, which assists a pipeline of young leaders in their leadership journey. This initiative will join the Menzies Emerging Leaders Program which is currently recruiting, targeting 15-17 year old Australian Students and focusing on fostering ethical reasoning capabilities within students as part of the English curriculum..

Liz Gillies, Menzies Foundation CEO spoke of the partnership, “The collaboration between the Menzies Foundation and Global Voices provides a powerful platform to inspire and equip young Australians with the tools and experiences necessary to become influential leaders on a global scale. By embracing this opportunity, the Menzies Scholars will contribute to creating a more prosperous, equitable, and resilient future, while fostering international cooperation, inclusive development, sustainability, and gender equality”.

Together, the Menzies Foundation and Global Voices aim to shape a new generation of leaders who will drive positive change, strengthen communities, and make a lasting impact on Australian society and the world.

More about the opportunity:

The Global Voices Scholarship Program encompasses three key elements: participation in pre-departure briefings at our National Conference in Canberra, completion of a Policy Fellowship, and involvement in an international delegation. The dedicated Global Voices Executive Team facilitates the program, from processing applications and coordinating logistics to providing training workshops, mentoring, and ongoing support to the participants. Young leaders are selected based on their demonstrated propensity and commitment to sharing their acquired skills and knowledge to strengthen their local communities and Australian society. The program’s desired outcomes include the scholars gaining valuable research and analysis skills, enhancing interpersonal communication, media and communication skills, leadership abilities, and negotiation skills. Moreover, scholars develop a deeper cultural awareness, enhance their global literacy, and establish long-lasting international networks.

Opportunity 1:

In October 2023, Marrakesh, Morocco will host the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. These meetings convene the world’s most senior leaders, including government officials, diplomats, policymakers, economists, and private sector experts. While recent meetings have focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting global monetary cooperation for financial stability, this year’s focus will be on supporting nations grappling with the impacts of COVID-19. Global Voices Scholars will have the extraordinary opportunity to meet high-level Australian and international officials, as well as representatives from the IMF, World Bank, and the Atlantic Council. Being one of the few youth organizations participating in these Meetings, our Scholars will benefit from unparalleled networking opportunities.

Opportunity 2:

Additionally, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take center stage as the primary global intergovernmental body dedicated to promoting gender equality and empowering women. At CSW, civil society organizations (CSOs) and UN entities gather to agree on actions that accelerate progress and advance women’s rights in political, economic, and social spheres. In addition to attending multiple official and parallel events throughout the week, Global Voices will organize bilateral meetings between participants and Australian and international official delegations and civil society organizations. These sessions will facilitate networking, knowledge sharing, and discussions on outcomes.
